Materials
To help hold down the cost of a huge material inventory I have decided to focus on four groups of materials I use to craft my pens, the groups are shown below. Towards the bottom of the page are actual photos of blanks from my "Private Stash". You may select one of these blanks to have your pen crafted around, just drop me a note telling me which pen stype and which blank and I'll give you a quote.
| Burls |
| A burl is cancerous growth or a deformity where a tree couldn't decide which direction it wanted to grow so just started a knarled up mess. Well, these burls produce the most striking grain patterns, "eyes" and knarly configurations of any wood species. Among my favorite natural burls are Amboyna, Honduran Rosewood, Red and Brown Mallee and some Buckeye burls. The Box Elder burl in it's natural state is not that appealing but when injected under pressure with richly colored dyes, produces some stunning beauties. |
 |
| Truestone |
| The truestone I use is made from actual mineral ore which has been pulverized then mixed with a resin binder then formed under great pressure to create "rock like" material. I carry many types of this material and think it makes some of the most breath taking pens anywhere. |
 |
| Acrylics |
| I use the term "acrylic" rather loosely as there are polyester blanks, Alumilite, Acrylester, Italian plastic and several other materials but all are generally catagorized as acrylics. The acrylic pens are generally the lightest pens I make so if you want a feather like writing instrument, try an acrylic! |
 |
| "Home Brew" and Ebonite |
| I started casting my own pen blank material using Alumilite, a strong, clear resin. My imagination is the limit to the type of blanks I can make, currently I am mixing multiple pearlescent powders to obtain rich swirling designs as well as adding real coffee beans for those special "one of a kind" speciality pens. I also found by mixing burl caps and knarly pieces of exotic woods with colored resins I could create my "Earth as seen from Space" collection. I also now have a generous supply of a hard rubber commonly called Ebonite which comes in several colors and I will use this material in my custom "featherweight" fountain pens. |

| Blanks from my Private Stash |
| These blanks have been rough turned on the lathe and sanding sealer applied to give an approximate idea of what they will look like finished. Click on images to enlarge. Some of these blanks are extremely rare and or expensive, you may request any of these blanks be used in crafting your special pen just drop me a line letting me know which one and I will give you a quote. |

 |
| Amboyna Burl. Here are few of my premium blanks you may select from. The blanks with the gold blending into the flame make some stunning pens, I have a few examples in my photo gallery. |
 |
| Dyed Box Elder burl makes for some stunning pens and as the photos below show, no two blanks are alike. I love turning these blanks because you never know what you will reveal inside, some have lots of swirls, some have lots of eyes, some have a little of everything going on. |
